Call for Applications: fully funded Pen Avenue Writing Excursion for Malawian young writers



Pen Avenue will be holding a Writing Excursion on Saturday, 15 April, 2017. The Excursion will take place on Zomba Mountain, from morning to late afternoon. It is expected that from this Excursion, a digital anthology will be produced. 

Pen Avenue is, therefore, calling for applications from Malawian writers aged 25 and below for them to attend the Excursion. Interested applicants should apply with the following:

  1. A sample of their own writing (in any genre) with the word limit of 2000 words for any form of prose and not more than 2 pages for poetry and not more than 10 pages for a play or its snippet (all in 12pt Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing)
  2. An essay of not more than 500 words explaining why they would like to attend the Excursion and what they expect to write from the Excursion 
  3. A brief bio of themselves
Complete applications should be emailed to penavenue3@gmail.com before 11:59 pm on Friday, 31 March, 2017. 

Pen Avenue will provide the following to successful applicants:

  1. Return transport between Blantyre/Zomba and Zomba Mountain 
  2. Access fee to all sites that will be a part of the Excursion 
  3. Lunch at a designated place within the excursion sites (details of the sites are below)
In return, Pen Avenue expects the successful applicants to:
  1. Participate in all activities that will be a part of the Excursion 
  2. Produce at least two works of art (literary art preferable) on their experience that will be used for the digital anthology 
The tentative sites for the Excursion include Botanical Gardens, Mulunguzi Dam, Trout Farm and Chawe Inn. (Please note that these sites might have to be changed)
